Episode 26 from Family Films' Living Bible Series
The Living Bible Series
The Lord's Ascension was the final film in Family Films 26-episode The Living Bible (1952) series. Jesus reveals Himself to Mary Magdalene, the two travelers on the road to Emmaus, to Thomas and the disciples, and then ascends to His Father. We recently restored this short film for our GFA Easter Collection. While it is the final episode, no spoiler alert is necessary as we all know the glorious outcome. Nelson Leigh once again portrays Jesus.
This distinguished series was directed by Edward Dew, who also narrates. Dew was a descendant in a long line of ministers, and was educated for that calling until he caught the acting bug in 1936 at age 27. "Eddie" Dew played scores of small unaccredited parts in feature films, then briefly starred in B-westerns, and went on to direct The Living Bible series as well as 40 episodes of Sergeant Preston of the Yukon TV series (1955-63), the 10-part The Book of Acts (1957) series for Broadman Films, the 14-part The Old Testament Scriptures (1958) series for Family Films/Concordia, several episodes of the This is the Life TV series and many other short Christian films like Three Wise Boys (1963).
The VISUAL AID CENTER was once a thriving national distributor of 16mm Christ-centered films to churches and religious groups. Such regional exchanges ceased production late in the 20th century.
